Interview FAQ
Several people have asked questions about the interviews so you can find more information about the interviews below. This page will be updated when we receive more questions.
What are the main objectives of the interviews?
The main objectives of the interviews are:
To give adventure game developers a platform to talk about and make people aware of their games. The podcast has close to 7000 regular listeners every month and while this podcast may also be a niche much like adventure games, most of the listeners are passionate adventure game fans.
To give adventure game fans a chance to hear from and get to know the developers behind the games. This way they can also find out about games and help them make a decision about which games to buy.
To give other game developers advice about game development and marketing.
How long do the interviews last?
We like to give the guests as much as time as necessary to talk without rushing, That said, they usually last between 30 and 60 minutes but the guest can of course let us know beforehand how long they would like to speak for.
What timezone are you in?
I am in Ireland which is the GMT +1 timezone.
Is there a time limit to the interviews?
There is no time limit to the interviews as I want to make sure that the guests have enough time to say everything they need to say about their careers and their games. However, they usually last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. The guest can also say how long they would like to speak if they so wish before the interview begins.
Will the interviews be going live or will they be edited?
The interviews won’t be going live and they will be edited afterwards to ensure that any interruptions are removed and to ensure the interview flows smoothly.
I would like to do an interview and promote my game but I would prefer not to do a spoken interview. Are there any other options?
Yes! You can request a written interview instead or you can send us a link or code for your game or demo and we will do our best to play it and review it as soon as possible.
Which option is better?
It depends on what the developer is comfortable with. A spoken interview on the podcast and Youtube would reach a wider audience but some people prefer written interviews so either would hopefully help.
Will the interviews be audio or video?
The main thing is that your audio is as good as possible but we can certainly do a video interview if you have a camera set up as well :)
Will the interview appear only on podcast platforms or will it appear on Youtube and other video platforms?
The interviews will appear on podcast platforms and if you wish we can also release the interview to our Youtube channel which may help to reach a wider audience. However we will not release a video unless we have your permission.
Will there be any spoilers in the interviews?
There are usually no spoilers during the interview although occasionally we may do a spoiler special discussion for Patreon subscribers if the guest agrees and if the interviewer has played the game.
How and when are interviews recorded?
Interviews are usually done over Zoom. When we first call at the time of the interview we discuss and prepare the interview before we start recording. Once we are ready then we start to record the interview using Skype directly. Once the pandemic ends we will hopefully do more in person interviews.
What questions or topics will you cover in the interview?
All interviews are informal and there is no rigid structure in place that needs to be followed. That said you can find some of the general topics we usually cover below:
Introductions and favourite adventure/narrative games.
How and why you started in game industry.
When you founded studio and your objectives.
Discussion of game including story, characters, setting, gameplay, puzzles, graphics, sound design, voice acting, etc.
Tools and tech used.
Storytelling inspirations
Any lessons learned when making later games
Game marketing
Interesting anecdotes.
Advice for other game devs
Future plans
Where can people find you, eg, social media, official site, Steam Page.
These are all general topics that can be discussed in the interview but the guests are more than welcome to discuss any topics they wish related to their games and career.
Should I send a steam code or link to my game before the interview?
You can indeed if you wish but it is not necessary so do not feel obliged :)
When will interviews be uploaded?
We usually try and upload interviews as close as possible to the game’s release. Otherwise, since interviews will need to be edited afterwards, it will usually take a few months before interviews will be uploaded.
How can we appear on the podcast?
You can feel free to contact us if you would like us to mention or review your game or if you have any feedback at all.
